<<Social Dreaming is a discipline for discovering the social meaning and significance of dreams through sharing them with each other’s. This is done by the deliberate and sustained method of free association and amplification through the Social Dreaming TM Matrix. Matrix was chosen from the first attempt at Social Dreaming because it was intuited, by its founder Dr. Gordon Lawrence, that this configuration best fitted the dreaming process. From the inception of Social Dreaming the systemic nature of dreaming was recognized and affirmed. Not only do dreamers dream from their ecological niche but also they dream themes that are systemically related. Social dreaming is also a uniquely experiential discipline, which frees participants from their personal defenses that constrain free-thinking and interaction in ordinary social situations. Social dreaming can be used in organizational systems, professional communities, and consumer, focus and special interest groups.>> Dal sito ufficiale

o renderli più elastici (thin boundaries), così da potere ricordare più sogni (esplorazione);

THE  SOCIAL DREAMING MATRIX:

A SURVEY ON THE SOCIAL FUNCTION OF DREAMS
ABSTRACT
by AVENA MARCO
In the present survey, the author investigates the social function of dreams moving from a historical-anthropological excursus. The author reports various examples of tribal customs and rituals of primitive cultures which focus on the social use of dreams to demonstrate the great relevance they have as a common language.
In the religious tradition, the author suggests that the dream of Nebucanesar “re-dreamed” by Daniel the prophet, could well be one of the first uses of the technique of Social Dreaming, where a dream is amplified by another.
The model of the Social Dreaming Matrix of Gordon Lawrence is explained from a holistic point of view from which the author hypothesizes an analogy between the Matrix of Social Dreaming and the chaotic systems treated by the Chaos Theory.
Among the phenomena explained starting from this perspective is the “Butterfly effect” and the importance that the initial conditions assume in complex systems. This hypothesis is based upon the observation of the importance which initial dreams have in Social Dreaming: the matrix is highly sensitive to the conditions in which the group finds itself at the beginning of the session. The observation of several “conveyants”interviewed in the research  show the importance of the initial configuration of the matrix. In particular it has been seen that free associations seem to develop from the first dreams. The possible explanation of this  phenomenon is that the first dream can be seen as an “attractor” of the successive images according to the model of the “strange attractors” of the Theory of Chaos.
The research has also highlighted other characteristics of the Social Dreaming Matrix model, in particular the correlation between the life context of the dreamer and the contents of the dream images, including its narrative structure. In this case the dream can be seen as an instrument to see the social and political environment from a different point of view. In particular, the Social Dreaming can be used as an Action-Research in  institutional analysis, a vision that can render manifest the latent thoughts of organizations.
The Social Dreaming Matrix is a  complex system where the Theory of Chaos can be useful to study the matrix group dynamic, especially the Butterfly effect phenomenon, in order to understand and to be more aware about the relation between the initial configuration and the developing of the dreaming matrix configuration.  The theory of morphogenic fields is used to describe the articulation of the transpersonal processes inside the matrix.
